Picking the Right Window Hardware

We all know that choosing windows for your home can be a big decision. From materials to sizing, there is a lot to consider when it comes to your taste and specific needs. One detail that may get overlooked is window hardware. Putting thought into details such as sash lifts, latches, and locks can add a personal touch to incorporate your style. Read more to learn about choosing window hardware for your home.

Window Hardware Finishes

When it comes to window hardware, one of the first decisions you’ll want to make is finish. Take a look at the room you are furnishing and the existing hardware in place, such as door knobs, hinges, and drawer pulls. You may choose to match the finish of the hardware to your entire home, or you may want each room to have its own color scheme. Either way, hardware comes in a variety of finishes, so there is bound to be one that you love. One more thing to consider is the ensure the finish coordinates with the color of your window frame. Some finishes, like Satin Nickel, have a cool tone, while others are warm, such as Antique Brass. Luckily, there is no right or wrong way to choose a finish. Go with your own unique style and run with it!

Window Hardware Styles

Along with finish, the style of your window hardware can vary. Depending on the type of window, you will be able to choose what style you want. For double-hung windows, hardware includes sash lifts as well as a lock & keeper to keep it secure. You can choose a variety of styles, including Classic, Traditional, Estate, or Contemporary. Casement and awning windows swing out with a crank mechanism and have a latch to hold them in place. Crank options include an Easy-Grip Handle, a Compact Operator Handle, and a Metal T-Handle, which is small and difficult for young children to open. Gliding windows move side to side and offer a more contemporary look. Hardware choices for gliding windows include finger pulls, sash handles, and locks. These come in a variety of styles to suit any room. No matter what window you choose, you’ll be able to create the perfect style for your home. Choosing window hardware is a fun way to create a look that is all your own. Have more questions about window hardware? Give us a call and we’ll be happy to discuss all of your options.
